Roses are one of my absolute favourite flowers and one of my favourite fragrances in both perfume and home fragrance.
All year round Peppery Rose is up there as one of my best sellers, it's soft spiciness and not at all sweet scent appeals to both men and women.
This felt like the perfect fragrance choice when I created my Valentines gift box but it did make me wonder, why do we gift roses at Valentines Day. Well here's what I discovered..
The very first valentines
The earliest known Valentines message was sent in 1477 in the form of a letter by Margery Brews to John Paston, who she described as 'my right well beloved Valentine'
Why do we give red roses on Valentines Day?
In Greek mythology, it is said that rose bushes grew from the ground through Aphrodite's tears and the blood of her love Adonis.
It's all about the colour
Red roses symbolise love & passion
Yellow roses symbolise friendship
Orange roses symbolise desire
Pink roses symbolise gratitude
So there you go, has this put you in the mood to shower yourself or a loved one with the scent of roses?
